for one fixed price.

Why is protecting against excessive noise important?

It’s estimated that there are currently 20,000 workers with work-related hearing problems in the UK (Hse.gov.uk, 2018), and in the last ten years there have been over 1,500 claims associated with work related deafness! The values of successful claims varies according to the circumstances, such as the working conditions and the level of damage sustained, but personal injury insurers are advertising compensation payouts at anywhere up to between £70,000 (Imperiumlaw.co.uk, 2018) and £88,000 (Hearing Loss Advice Lawyers, 2018) – and that’s not including costs and fines that organisations may have to pay.

When it comes to Noise at Work, failing to protect your workforce can be costly. One recent noise induced deafness claim by a joiner/engineer cost an employer £18,000 in compensation (Gower, 2018). With the appropriate action, further claims, and all associated costs, are fully preventable.

Who’s your competent person for noise at work?

The word competent (or competency) is defined as “having the necessary ability, knowledge, or skill to do something successfully“, and it’s repeated a total of 26 times throughout The Noise at Work Regulations 2005.

Dedicating an individual, or individuals, to be the competent person for Noise at Work in your organisation is the key to complying with the Noise Regulations. Castle’s three day Competent Persons Course was designed to empower safety managers with the necessary skills and understanding in order for them to ensure the protection of employees and compliance of your organisation.
