Why is protecting against excessive noise important?

It’s estimated that there are currently 20,000 workers with work-related hearing problems in the UK (Hse.gov.uk, 2018), and in the last ten years there have been over 1,500 claims associated with work related deafness! The word competent (or competency) is defined as “having the necessary ability, knowledge, or skill to do something successfully“, and it’s repeated a total of 26 times throughout The Noise at Work Regulations 2005.
